Foster Dog – Kobe

On February 25, 2020, a small male Chihuahua was found tied to a trash can at a train station in the Miami area. A local animal rescue, Paw Patrol, was contacted to take him in. Paw Patrol is a foster based animal rescue, so they rely solely on fosters!

Kobe – Abandoned at a Local Train Station

The next day Christy, the president and founder of Paw Patrol Animal Rescue and Sanctuary, posted Kobe’s story on social media in an attempt to find him a foster home.

When we saw the post on social media about this puppy and his story, we felt a sudden urge to foster! But…..

We never had a puppy!

With that being said… Kobe is small, about 5 lbs. Could we foster this cute pup with a sad story? We don’t know how a 6 month old puppy would interact with out senior dogs and our cats!

And as you may know, here at Pet Street we currently have 4 senior dogs, 4 rabbits, and 2 cats! They all get along very well 🙂 We DO NOT want to mess with this happy family!

The decision was made to try it. He needs a foster home ASAP and we could provide for him for a short period of time if it didn’t work out with our cats and senior dogs. So, the next day we went to pick up Kobe!

What. A. Cute. Pup!

Playful.

Loving.

Energetic.

Cuddly.

Everything you want in a puppy! Who could possibly abandon this amazing puppy??? But, how would he interact with our dogs and cats?!

Once we got him home it was crazy. You must understand, our dogs are old. They range from 9-16 and they love to relax and sleep! Kobe just wants to play.

Kobe tried playing with Riley, our 4.5 lb blind man. That was rough.

Kobe tried interacting with Sassy, our senior Pom with doggy dementia. Not a good fit.

Kobe tried playing with our cats…. They were not amused. Puffy cat tails and a lot of hiding.

…. This isn’t going to work 🙁

“Let’s keep him a night or two and see how it goes. But, this seems like a bad fit for our fur family.”

It’s been a few weeks. The Covid-19 Corona Virus has delayed a lot with Kobe. He still needs to be neutered and put up for adoptions.

We take Kobe for walks with our Jack-Russel/Chihuahua girl, Layla, and they have become best friends 🙂 Kobe eventually learned to steer clear of playing with Riley, but still likes to snuggle with him. Kobe doesn’t bother Sassy at all anymore!

Kobe and Layla – Best Friends

Kobe has even been civil with our cats.

Well… he and our cat Jasmine are civil now. Kobe still tries to chase our other cat, Ahsoka. She hides from him mostly, but she has been out and about much more, sleeping on shelves and the top of our “cat tree”.

For now, he is our pup! We are still only fostering Kobe, but, due to the Corona Virus, we may have an extended period of time with him here at Pet Street 🙂
